Dr Catherine Duggan to appear on Strictly Come Dancing

Dr Catherine Duggan, Chief Executive Officer at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), is to appear in the next series of the hit BBC series Strictly Come Dancing, due to be filmed later this year.

Well known globally for her incredible dance moves (disco is her speciality), Catherine has a large repertoire of dance routines with which she hopes to wow the judges.

This will be the first time a pharmacist will appear in the series marking it a significant step forward for the profession.

Commenting on the announcement Dr Duggan said:

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to showcase my dancing skills. My routines are legendary and I plan to create a small studio both in my home and the FIP head office in the Hague so that I can rehearse.

“Friends and colleagues constantly request that I show off my skills so now we will build it into my daily routine with family and colleagues in the run-up to the show.

“It has also been quite a few years since Riverdance came out so I’m hoping to put Irish dancing back on the mainstream map.

“In my various pharmacy roles, I have had to deal with pressurised situations over the years so I am hopeful that I can bring that experience to the dancefloor and really show the judges what I can do.

“Obviously I don’t know what professional dancer I will be partnered with but I have some firm ideas on how we can delight the judges in the show dance.”

A member of the FIP team who wished to remain anonymous said:

“I think it’s brilliant, she’s so talented. Catherine is well-known for her leadership skills in pharmacy so taking those skills into the competitive ballroom dance arena is an obvious next step.

“We are so proud of her at FIP and have already bought sequined outfits so that we can rehearse with her.

Craig Revel Horwood commented:

“It is simply FAB-U-LOUS to welcome our first ever pharmacist onto the show. Myself and my fellow judges are intrigued to see what Catherine can do.”

Catherine’s ballroom dance YouTube channel is set to launch in early June and her new book “The dancing pharmacist” is available from Amazon now.
