This module highlights the key considerations for spacer use in patients with respiratory disease, including which patients are most suitable for spacer use as well as what type of spacer should be recommended and why. Key learning for healthcare professionals includes which size and material of spacer is most suitable for which patients, whether a facemask should be used and a new opportunity to optimise spacer use in paediatric patients with the support of an app.

Learning objectives

After completing this module, healthcare professionals will be better able to:

  • Evaluate which patients are most suitable for a spacer
  • Review the key aspects of individualised spacer prescribing
  • Understand how the size and material of the spacer impact its use
  • Recall the impact of gamification using an app on the successful inhaler and spacer use in paediatric patients
