The General Pharmaceutical Council has appointed Liam Anstey as the new Director for Wales. Prior to joining the GPhC Liam worked at the BMA where he led on public affairs issues for Wales, most recently as Head of Media and Public Affairs. Liam previously worked for the General Medical Council where he led on policy and public affairs issues for Wales as well as for the Royal College of Nursing – where he worked on the campaign for the Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Act and the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales.

Duncan Rudkin, Chief Executive of the General Pharmaceutical Officer, said:

“I am delighted to welcome Liam Anstey as our new Director for Wales. Liam brings significant knowledge of health policy and experience of engaging with stakeholders in Wales to the role. My colleagues and I are looking forward to working closely with Liam to make sure we respond effectively to key developments in Wales.”

Liam Anstey said:

“I am delighted to be taking forward the GPhC’s work as Director for Wales. Throughout my career, I have focussed on patients and ensuring their safety was at the forefront of the minds of policymakers and health professionals. I look forward to working with stakeholders in Wales and ensuring that the GPhC’s decisions take into account the needs of patients and the public across Wales.”
