The patient now has tremendous faith in our prescribing pharmacist so when her deafness continues and actually seems to be getting worse she returns a week later. This time our pharmacist treats this as a standalone presentation and does a full consultation followed up by an examination of both ears. Notable findings are the worsening deafness, some pain in the affected ear that wasn’t there last week and also what our pharmacist thinks could be a perforated eardrum. There is also some discharge.
She decides to treat with oral amoxicillin.
